History

  1. 1954

BAYCOM was initially started under the name Electronic Service Company.

  2. 1956

BAYCOM marks September 12 of this year as its anniversary, signifying the start of the company when Tom Pohlman signed a service agreement with Motorola. Before starting BAYCOM, Tom worked as an engineer for WTAQ and WBAY, and it's a source of pride at BAYCOM that Tom was instrumental in putting Green Bay's first television station on the air. As a second job, Tom was repairing two-way radios in his basement for the Green Bay police department, using the skills he had learned in the US Army during WW II.

  3. 1962

Tom’s business quickly grew, and Tom moved to our first location on Cass Street in Green Bay, which is now Commercial Auto Body Repair.

  4. 1966

The company was incorporated under the name Bay Communications, Inc.

  5. 1982

The business moved to its current location in Green Bay. At that time, BAYCOM was still operating exclusively as a Motorola service center.

  6. 1988

Motorola changed its sales structure and began hiring outside distributors. This was a major milestone in our history and more than doubled our staff as we became both a service and sales organization. BAYCOM also added a Marinette location this year.

  7. 1992

Dan Pohlman, Tom's son, purchased the business from his father. Dan grew up in the business and started by mowing the lawn, painting and performing janitorial duties around the shop. He began installing mobile radios in vehicles while Dan was still in high school. Dan attended college at Michigan Tech starting in 1968 and received his degree in electrical engineering in 1972. He continued his education, earning his MBA in 1976. Dan successfully ran the business and was instrumental in identifying diversification opportunities that support our core competency of wireless voice and data communications.

  8. 1993

An additional location opened in Neenah.

  9. 1994

    BAYCOM opened BAYCOM Cellular.

  10. 2007

Dan sold the business to Steve Elias. Steve Elias, a former Motorola employee, joined BAYCOM in 1991 as a Senior Account Executive. Steve aggressively explored new ideas and focused on how to take our wireless communications technology and digital data transmission expertise to new markets. Steve is a graduate of Gogebic Community College in Ironwood Michigan and Lakeland College in Sheboygan Wisconsin, with degrees in Marketing and Management.

  11. 2013

Milwaukee 2-Way, based in West Allis, was acquired in the interest of expanding BAYCOM's sales and service operations in southeastern Wisconsin.

  12. 2016

BAYCOM was acquired by OwnersEdge Inc., an ESOP holding company based in Brookfield, Wisconsin. BAYCOM also sold BAYCOM Cellular.

  13. 2017

The West Allis location was moved to an 8,400-square-foot facility in Pewaukee. BAYCOM and CC&N, affiliate businesses in the OwnersEdge portfolio, established a brand-aligned, regional office in the Fox Valley. This location replaced the individual office BAYCOM occupied in Neenah, and another CC&N had in Appleton. Also, BAYCOM acquired Communications Service Wisconsin (CSW). The acquisition added 22 employees and locations in Portage, Madison, and La Crosse. This acquisition was significant as it unified the top two Motorola partners in the state of Wisconsin.

  14. 2019

BAYCOM acquired Infinity Wireless, a Motorola dealer based in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The acquisition provides the first physical presence for BAYCOM outside Wisconsin along with new capabilities in the form of mesh networking solutions.

  15. 2021

BAYCOM's Portage and Madison locations combined into one centralized location in Sun Prairie, WI and the team began to create a state-of-the-art technical system staging area as well as BAYCOM’s first Lifeline Technology Center.

  16. 2022

BAYCOM's Lifeline Technology Center in Madison, WI is revealed.
