Automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) technology is becoming more common within the law enforcement community, giving industry leaders such as BAYCOM and the Wisconsin ALPR Association the impetus to provide additional educational resources and system consultation for public safety organizations.

The Wisconsin ALPR Association was formed in 2011 for the purpose of bringing data into one server. This allows secure sharing of data between police departments and other public safety organizations for efficient data retrieval and potential investigative matching. The greater the volume of data, the better the data resource becomes.

“Fugitive captures and vehicle recoveries outside of your home jurisdiction become much more feasible with this shared database,” says Kate Premo, communications consultant at BAYCOM, a member of the Wisconsin ALPR Association. “The investigative benefits of automatic license plate recognition easily justify the investment for participating departments in this law enforcement tool.”
